I've been accepted to a conference as an independent scholar. I'm trying to register, but I'm not sure what to call myself:

Professor/Professional
or
Retired/Unemployed

While I do work, I'm not working as an academic or teacher (nor am I enrolled in graduate school), and it's half priced if I select Unemployed. Of course, I don't want to be dishonest, but I'm paying for all of this out of pocket, so it certainly makes a big difference.

Thanks!

Yesterday I saw another user link to Simply Be, a webshop based out of the UK. To my excitement, when I clicked on the bra category, not only did they have my size, but they had lots of cheap things in my size. In two-packs! The had plunge bras!! After I realized that they didn't ship to the US, and stopped bawling, I thought I might be able to persuade a lovely UK Fat to order them for me and then ship them to me.
BUT! before I go to all of that trouble, I was wondering if any Fats based in the UK had experience with any of these cheap bra brands, and if so could those Fats share thoughts with me? Here are the bras I'm specifically looking at (in 36J, and then altering the band smaller):

I haven't heard of these bra brands before, so I'm really hoping someone will be able to help me out. Thank you in advance, everyone!

I'm looking for some info on what the flora (plant life) might have been in Britain in the early middle ages. I'm not a botanist, I just need a quote in my linguistic research to support the idea that the occurrence of certain plant types in herbal charms was not coincidental.
So, anyone, any ideas on British landscape in the early a.d.'s?

PS Tried article_request, and this community was recommended to me. Will be grateful!

Hello my loves! I haven't posted lately but I'm always lurking in the background like a creeper . I just wanted to share my Christmas FOTD. It was a gorgeous day...lots of food, libations, and family. Anyway, I love this dress! My sis (in the purple dress) told me that I looked like Airport Barbie lol but the dress looks nautical themed to me.  I'm also in love with my animal print flats. I've wanted a pair for so long and I finally found the perfect ones! My measurements are 50-43-47(belleh measurement lol)-48, I weigh about 245, and I'm usually a size 18.

Please ignore my brother getting a haircut in the background. Read more... )

Does anyone know where I can get some moccasins that will fit wide feet? I really like these Ugg ones, but they are way too narrow for my feet. So I would love something similar. Thanks!

I wanted to share my new and exciting snow/rain boots.
They fit my 19" calves with room to tuck in my non-skinny jeans.
They're faux fur lined and keep me warm. And they're comfortable to walk in, and wear all day while working on my feet.

I bought them in Purple and they're lovely and match my faux fur crazy 80's patchwork winter coat.

I got the size 10 and I do need to wear and extra pair of fluffy socks to make them not be too big, as I normally am a 9. They were out of the purple in a 9 and that was the only color I wanted. I don't know if the 9 would have fit or been too small. I'm happy with an extra layer of protection and warmth.

on zappos Tretorn has a boot that's surprisingly similar but in more colors and it's a bit cheaper.

I don't know if they fit the same. I'm partial to the Silver. :)

Hi,

I've tried searching online, but is there a particular way (MLA if it exists) for conference proceedings published in a CDROM only?

Thanks!

I have a question about sequin jackets. Black ones mainly, how do you wear them? What do you team them with? Photos would be awesome! I purchased the jacket under the cut in the evans sale and love it and ohh its so comfy and pretty but I have no idea what to wear with it! Any assistance would be fabulous :D

I've been looking for longer dresses lately--work-appropriate lengths!--and it's been very difficult. I'm somewhere between 6' and 6'2" tall, am a size 22-24, and am in need of dresses that hit somewhere between just below the knee and floor-length (maxis). I'm sure that other folks here are having the same problems, so I figured I'd hit up Fatshionista for some advice!

For reference, this grey ribbed dress from Evans is listed as 43" long, but it hits me at about knee-length or slightly shorter; the slit is a bit too high in the back, though. For a modest dress (i.e. mid- to low-thigh), I usually need a 40" length; 38" is generally a minidress, and anything shorter is basically a tunic.

So, does anyone know of a site with specifically tall dresses and such? I considered eShakti--they have two maxis in particular that I love!--but with its "C-" BBB rating, I'm extremely hesitant. As far as truly custom stuff goes, I'm familiar with janebonbon, but nothing similar. Other etsy sellers and such who do maxis and longer lengths custom would be great!

And, for clarity's sake, I'm not looking for any specific dress in particular, although I'd be glad to know of anything you've seen. I'm mostly just looking to start a conversation to help taller Fatshionista users! I always hear people talk about finding tall jeans and trousers, but not so much about finding tall dresses.

BTW, if you're looking for really tall jeans, try these Source of Wisdom jeans from Torrid! A 36" inseam usually fits me just perfectly, but these are much longer in reality. The ones I ordered could probably fit someone 6'4" or are perfect for people my height who wear heels!

Outfit of the Christmas Party! This is from my husband's Christmas party. I loved the sparkly little shrug and thought the shirt with the ruching was pretty cool too. The skirt is an old one and the shoes are extra fab ones that I had from my sister's wedding last year.

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has any good solutions for stretching the tops of knee/trouser socks. I received a few pairs of Lane Bryant trouser socks for Christmas and even they are way too tight for me at the knee. In the past I have just broken down and cut knotches in to loosen them up, but that only works if you're wearing pants and I'm more into dresses these days. I have poor circulation, plus it's damn uncomfortable, so I won't be able to wear them unless I find some solution.

Anyone know a good way to fix this without cutting them? Or, conversely, a good/easy way to alter them without it looking hideous? Thanks!

So, at that SF con that I mentioned in January, Arisia, here in Cambridge, MA, has a Heinlein Society Blood Drive every year. To encourage people to sign up, they have a coterie of volunteers called the Naughty Nurses; who go completely over the top with the naughty part.

(a tame pic here).

many of the women who do it are 'normal' or size 14-18 inbetweenies; last night, the woman who organizes it suddenly came up to me and asked me if I'd like to be a naughty nurse. I am a size 28 death fat, so I'm not the Normal Naughty Nurse, shall we say.

Problem is, I've already spent my costume money for Arisia on a purple and black corset and a Friday I'm In Love t-shirt from Threadless. Soooo...I need suggestions from the studio audience on how I could do this (I told her if I could come up with a costume by the new year, I'd do it.

I am thinking of scouring Goodwill for scrubs, then turning them into hot pant chaps by the simple expedient of slicing open the outside seams, and putting rivets down the sides to then lace with shoelaces, corset-like. Anyone ever done this?

I would like to maybe find a red or white corset but money is really tight and so I suspect that's not going to happen (but if anyone is going to sell one in the next while that would fit a 28 with DDD-cups, do think of me).

I've also been looking for white pumps online (preferably a wedge) to go with the shoes. I wear a 10WW or 11W depending. But you know, white shoes after labour day and all...I know they're out there but I'm looking in the wrong places.

I would *really* like to do this and go out there being sexy as hell even at my size, but this is the sort of costume that thin girls can get off the rack for cheap and larger people need to spend more time on, and I've only got 3 weeks. If anyone has *any* ideas on what a death fat can do to totally rock the naughty nurse look on a shoestring budget, I really need an assist!
